I have been thinking about big data and privacy lately and how those two are connected. Big data is data that is too big to be stored anywhere and is too large for the internet to handle. It is data that contains a large amount of information and information that is hard to store. It also has a large impact on how people think and act. To some extent, data about us is stored because we are tracked as individuals.
So when we don’t want companies to keep track of us, there are many ways to trick them into tracking you. There are numerous privacy protection laws that are passed every year that make it so companies can’t sell your data. When a company tracks you, you can’t opt out. Companies can monitor your internet use and your location even if you’ve given them permission to do so.
What companies have this ability? Google. Facebook. Twitter. Amazon. Yelp. Tumblr. The list goes on and on. We are all recorded by these companies in the real world. Companies collect all of our data and store it in databases. Sometimes these databases are encrypted and only accessible to the company which owns said database. Some of these databases are held on servers that can be hacked, but most are not.
What we really need is a central database to hold all of our personal data so that the companies who own our data can protect it in a way that is safe and reliable. There are many different ways to store data, but the one thing that is clear is that as long as companies are not able to hack into a centralized database, they will be able to collect all of our data.
The main advantages of centralized databases are that they are easier to secure, faster to access, and cheaper. In addition, centralized databases are also much easier for data collection operations to track down. It is no longer necessary to worry about whether someone has hacked into a computer in order to find out what data they have in it.
This seems like a good thing, but I don’t buy it as a solution. The only reason we have a centralized database is because we have a government force which can monitor those databases and make sure we don’t have data on it. If the government were to just get into our private databases, they could essentially read all of our data. What they would not be able to do is access our data outside of our database.
I don’t buy that either. Not because I think that’s an evil thought, but because it is a bad idea. If the government were to get into our databases, they would be able to access everything we have in it. They could look at our files (which would include our private emails, bank accounts, etc.) and they could access our private phone conversations. They could look at our private medical records and look at our private medical records.
Of course the other side of the equation is that the government could look at our private lives and say, “hey, you guys have this all together.” And the people that own the data are the ones that may not be as careful with it. They may not be as careful with it as the data owners.
A lot of people are getting too big for their britches. We’re all getting too big for our britches. But it’s the government that is getting too big for its britches.
